The overall objective of this initiative is to help reduce biodiversity loss whilst improving, in an environmentally sustainable manner, the quality of life of local communities living in landscapes prioritised for conservation and development (PPCDs).
At the landscape level, the initiative aims to support local stakeholders in strengthening the protection, sustainable management and enhancement of biodiversity, as well as ecosystem goods and services within PPCDs, for the benefit of nature and local communities, particularly women, young people and vulnerable populations.
At the regional level, the initiative will support initiatives aimed at strengthening governance, cross-border and inter-regional coordination, as well as conservation and management capacities for cross-border PPCDs, ensuring their alignment with international processes relating to biodiversity conservation and the fight against climate change.
Result 1: Operators incorporate best standards, approaches and practices into their operational framework and translate them into action
Result 2: Data from operators’ monitoring and evaluation systems contribute to government reporting, feed into the EU’s institutional reporting, and are used beyond the NaturAfrica programme in consultation with other stakeholders involved in the landscapes
Result 3: The outcomes of interventions are capitalised upon and actions are taken to make them accessible to all key stakeholders (target populations, policy-makers, technical staff, scientists, technical and scientific partners)
Result 4: The programme’s results enable concrete decisions aimed at improving cross-border and interregional cooperation for landscape management, inform policies and legislative frameworks in Central Africa, and ensure alignment with EU strategies and policies on biodiversity protection and the fight against climate change
