ECOFAUNE + aims to improve the governance and sustainable management of natural resources and biodiversity in CAR in order to support sustainable development and to fight against poverty. It focuses on safeguarding ecosystems in northeastern CAR threatened by human pressure, instability and insecurity.
The activities are organized in 3 components: i. Participatory and sustainable land use planning (APT): this includes a series of field actions such as: visits to participatory management sites of other African countries with the traditional authorities of the area, definition of ecosystem values and identification of pressures to manage, identification of management units and sustainable natural resource management systems, delineation of areas based on values and management units, evaluation and updating of the concept of “village hunting area” (CZH), support setting up an institutional structure to manage management units and coordination, developing a profit sharing model, revising the legislative framework, setting up the monitoring and evaluation system, preparing the Plan operationalization, establishment of pilot sites; etc. ii. Sustainable management of ecosystems and improved anti-poaching (LAB): wildlife protection, security, information management – Anti poaching iii. Economic and social development of local populations: Training of young people. Support to micro-projects. Sport Hunting Areas managed by communities and generating revenues (ZCV).

Complementarily to these 3 components, 2 cross-cutting components allow to develop i) political coordination, awareness and information, as well as intelligence aspects to support the security of the zone as well as the LAB and ii) ecological monitoring of the area. north for a point 0 after several years of insecurity and monitoring to identify major trends in wildlife dynamics and identify the management needs of protected areas and ZCVs.
