B4Life 2.0 – The EU Technical Facility for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services

The main objective of B4Life 2.0 is to support the global transition towards development pathways that are inclusive, nature-positive, climate-neutral, resilient, equitable and sustainable.

The specific objective is to improve the financial contribution as well as the quality, impact and sustainability of the European Commission’s external actions in support of biodiversity and nature at national, regional and global levels, in line with the EU Green Deal, EU policies and the recently adopted Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF).

Result 1: The scale, quality and impact of the EU’s external actions in support of the conservation, restoration and management of biodiversity and natural ecosystems are enhanced and based on integrated, inclusive and innovative approaches, whilst also harnessing the private sector’s commitment to nature conservation and economic development;

Result 2: The use of nature-based solutions is improved across the EU’s external action, the associated benefits related to climate change mitigation and adaptation are enhanced, and any negative impacts on biodiversity are mitigated;

Result 3: Strengthened capacity of EU staff and relevant development partners regarding biodiversity, including innovative approaches, and the use of nature-based solutions for sustainable development (including related cross-cutting issues such as women’s participation, the protection of the rights of indigenous peoples and local communities, the use of innovative financing options, etc.)

Result 4: Strengthening the EU’s position and perception as a global leader in biodiversity conservation and the implementation of the GBF.
