TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE FOR THE PROJECT “WILDLIFE ECOSYSTEMS IN THE NORTH-EAST OF THE CAR” (ECOFAUNE-RCA)

The general objectives of the project are:

–                  The overall objective is to improve the governance and the management of natural resources and biodiversity of the CAR, for fighting poverty

–                  The objective of the project is to protect the specific ecosystems in Northeast CAR threatened by human pressure, instability and insecurity in the area.

The specific objective is to provide technical assistance (global, long term, medium term and short-term) to the Project Wildlife Ecosystems in the Northeast, and thus support the program implementation with quality and effectiveness.

The objective is to strengthen the environmental protection of the North-eastern CAR, sensitive to the consequences of climate change and the depletion of natural resources, but also to strengthen security and hence the wildlife conservation at a regional level including Chad and Sudan (transhumance management and control of poaching), strengthen the management capacities of the “community based hunting management areas” on legal, technical and administrative issues, for a greater autonomy.

Specific activities to achieve these objectives:

1 Spatial planning and implementation of a transverse component of interactive information-communication: communication and cooperation to contain the transhumance outside the protected areas,

2 Wildlife Conservation and enhancement of anti poaching activities: wildlife protection against all types of poaching and in priority the local poaching in collaboration with the population living in the “community based hunting management areas”,

3 Strengthening the” community based hunting management areas”: enhancement and extension of the “community based hunting management areas” in favor of local populations, with an increased support in the search for autonomy, to economic development of the Northeast region and the participation in a return to security.

The fight against transborder poaching should be conducted in synergy with the Ministry of Defence.
